Dr. Teresa Sue Bratton believes that "Education is the passport to opportunity in America."
We need to fully fund early childhood education so that children are prepared for school. Elementary education should be rounded and rigorous to form a solid foundation for middle school. Our middle school students need to be challenged with a developmentally appropriate education and encouraged to find their direction so that in high school they can either develop job skills or prepare for higher education.
We need to expand federal support of low cost loans, such as Pell grants, for capable students to advance their studies.
Education is continuous. Job experience is a valuable form of education. But when jobs are lost, retraining for new jobs needs to be available and affordable.
